Welcome to the Ruth Marsh School of Dancing

Established in 1987, the Ruth Marsh School of Dancing now has around 130 pupils. Ruth is a registered teacher with both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the International Dance Teachers' Association (IDTA), offering children's and adult classes in ballet, tap and street dance. She also holds a CRB enhanced disclosure certificate.

Classes are small and friendly and all abilities are catered for. As well as learning the discipline and skills of dance, this is a great way to make new friends and have fun! There are obvious benefits like keeping fit and improving posture and co-ordination; being part of our school also builds your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Ruth has been dancing since the age of 6. She trained with the Thompson School in Rotherham from 1976 - 1979, where she first qualified as a teacher with the British Ballet Organization (BBO). From there she went on to study Performing Arts at Leicester Polytechnic (now De Montford University), gaining BA (Hons) 2.1 in 1982. Subsequent training has led to further teaching qualifications with the RAD and IDTA. After living and teaching overseas for a few years, she settled in Sheffield and opened her own school.

LATEST UPDATE - 25 September 2020

UPDATES TO OUR COVID RISK ASSESSMENT/POLICY - Please see ‘School Policies’ page.

Almost a month into our Autumn Term now and things seem to be settling down nicely.

Our timetable has been amended to allow time between classes - see ‘Class Timetable’ page - and we have steps in place to keep our students as safe as possible - please see our ‘School Policies’ page for details.

If you are unable to attend our face to face classes for any reason - perhaps you’re self-isolating or maybe just not ready to return yet - there is an option to join our live classes via Zoom.  Please contact the school for details.

I’m leaving the online class timetable on the website - just in case we need it again!

There are a couple of online classes still taking place.  Please contact the school if you are interested.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has taken part in our online classes.  It’s been lovely to see you all, and we’ve had a lot of fun, despite lockdown.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or phone/text if you have any questions or concerns.
