How to make a yoghurt pot dancer

Things you need

Body

Yoghurt pot or similar

Paper or material to cover the pot

Girl dancer - material or paper to make a skirt

Glue or sticky tape

Scissors

Head

Paper or light card to make the head

Colouring pencils/crayons to draw the face OR a photo of your own face

Cocktail or lolly stick to attach the head to the body

Arms & Legs

Ribbon, pipe cleaners or light card

Maybe use buttons for the feet?

  1. Cover your yoghurt pot with paper or material - make it colourful – this is the top part of their costume.

  2. Pierce two holes/slits in the bottom of the pot and one hole either side for the arms to attach (you don’t need the side holes if using paper for the arms) – GET HELP FROM AN ADULT FOR THIS PART! I used a needle/bodkin and then a skewer to make the holes gradually larger and a knife to make slots – BE VERY CAREFUL!!

  3. Attach your hanging loop now – eg ribbon, cotton thread, thin string. I used a bodkin to help pass the ribbon through the slots.

  4. The arms and legs -

    a. If you are using ribbon for the arms or legs – feed a long length of ribbon for the legs through the slots in the bottom of the pot. Tie knots or attach buttons for feet. Pass a shorter length of ribbon through the holes in the sides of the pot and tie knots for hands.

    b. If you are making paper arms and legs cut 2 shorter strips of paper for the arms – you can cut the ends to look like hands if you want to, and cut 2 longer strips of paper for the legs. Pass the leg pieces through the slots in the bottom of the pot, fold over a small tab and hold in place with glue or sticky tape. Draw shoes on the feet. Fold a small tab on the end of the arms which will attach to the body – hold in place with glue or sticky tape.

  5. Your dancer might be wearing colourful tights or leggings so feel free to decorate the legs.

  6. If making a girl dancer, make her a skirt from paper or fabric. Cut a circle and cut out a smaller circular hole in the middle. If using paper, maybe draw/colour a design on this. Pass this over the yoghurt pot so that it sits on the rim.

  7. To make the head, cut out a circle/oval. Draw a face or attach a photo of your own face onto this. Attach this using a cocktail stick or similar, or make a paper tab which you can then attach with glue or sticky tape.

  8. Finish off your dancer with any extra trimmings you like – it will be great if you can give it some sparkle.
